We are of this consciousness and express our lives in and through its universal presence. We could not meaningfully experience any cognitive activity without the preexisting reality of universal consciousness. I guarantee you that no smart computer a million years from now will ever evoke the "observer effect" when the double slit experiment is tried because universal consciousness will only recognize its own. However, by limiting the admissibility of any considerations that are not squarely grounded in the relentless skepticism of empirical science we hem the mind in with conformity and eventually dogma, and this is especially true in the central question of the origin of consciousness. Biological cells are always dying and multiplying because cell memories can be embedded in order inside a single group of molecules and when combined together they become a single cell, this is being repeated on all levels of existence. I believe Consciousness can be created and awareness is given though geometry.

The conscious is the superficial part of the mind which is lighted, and below it lies the unconscious buried in the dark. Assuming consciousness in other humans is different from assuming it in non-humans, because we ourselves are human, so we can therefore introspect consciousness in ourselves, and then extend it to all other things in our categorical set (i.e. the set of all humans). It's not certain that other humans are also conscious, but we have stronger reason to believe it than with non-humans.

If consciousness is some special property that the higher animals exhibit eg humans, apes, dolphins, elephants…. Assuming you don’t believe it’s a human only attribute, at what point on that intellectual scale can we say, ok that animal is conscious, but that animal is not? I don’t believe you can. Consciousness is I think a sliding scale of awareness based on what our senses have the ability to perceive and our intellectual ability to comprehend. Which in our and the higher animals case, also makes us conscious of self. That “movie” is our brain’s “illusionary portrayal” of the reality around us that a billion years of evolution has arrived at and by which we navigate through the physical world. We are hard wired and socially conditioned to see the world around us in a manner common to our species. Why is it we and many other animals consume mind altering drugs? To see and feel a different consciousness, a different reality other than the one we are pre programmed by nature to experience. Of course advanced AI will be conscious. But their consciousness, their inner movie, will be entirely different from ours, just like any alien species, be it a little green man or a dolphin. That saying, we all see the world through different eyes, could not be more true.

The fundamental failure of this way of thinking (IMO) is believing consciousness somehow derives from the matter of the brain but its obvious to me that consciousness emerges from the running neural network which needs the physical brain to operate in. This follows because we can change the way the neural network runs in our brains by using drugs, for example. The argument is similar to noting that an electric field emerges from a current flowing in a wire. The wire is part of it but the electric field isn't fundamentally created by "the wire", its the process of flowing current. Wires dont, and never will, create electric fields. Flowing currents do.
